Newt Love after having been
wenched!

Our violin, a Maggini copy, was donated
by Newt Love, a vendor of the Carved Stone shop at the Maryland Renaissance
Festival, and long-time fan and friend of ours. His shop has provided us
with a friendly and picturesque venue for us and many other musicians over
the years. Last year Newt donated his Maggini to Cur Non/Flatpickin in the
hopes that it would once again give someone the pleasure it had given his
family. The following account as told by Newt Love, is the Maggini's
history:
"The violin's history as I know it is:
in 1965, my dad bought it at a pawnshop in Hollywood. The pawnshop owner
told him that a studio musician had hocked it as a means of selling it. He
had been in the process of quitting the music business for a more stable
job, so that he could support his new family.
"It was next played by my brother Paul.
Next was my sister Crystal. Then it went to my (then) wife Sherre. She is
now my ex-wife, and the violin reverted to me. I passed it to you.
"Paul is a Jurist Doctorate (lawyer)
in Marin County California. Crystal is the Director of Human Resources for
her company in Barstow California. Sherre is married to Ed Lovick, and they
are both involved in the Big Band Jazz scene of southern California."
